Year-after-year

We’re down to the last two weeks of the year. And while we still have plenty of work to do, this is a good time to reflect on our accomplishments in 2012.

First and foremost we met our sales goal for the year – nearly doubling our revenue from 2011. As you might expect our expenses doubled too so we still need to improve our profit margin, but the fact that Milestone is growing at this pace is a great sign for 2013.

We hired one part-time employee and two contract developers in 2012. The plan is to move two more of our freelance associates into full-time positions in 2013. If we’re able to double our revenues again (our goal for next year) then we will probably need more help!

We still have time to reach an important milestone we missed in October; launching the third generation of our company website. It the same old story about the shoemaker’s kids with no shoes – we were just too busy building websites to work on our own. However, we settled on a new design, building has commenced, and we’re writing content as fast as we can. With any luck we’ll launch by the end of the year.

Office space is another aspiration we fell short of this year. I would love to own or rent an office in downtown Sarasota – not only for the collaborative work environment, but also for the physical presence – especially now that we’re working with larger clients and bigger budgets.

But the reality is we don’t need the space, and we can’t afford the expense. I have no doubt that one day – another year or two down the road – we will grow out of our home offices. Until then we decided to take an interim step with a virtual office at Regus.

Starting in January, Milestone Marketing Associates will have a Main Street address, a full-time receptionist, and access to a private office or conference room for 16 hours every month.

One-step-at-a-time, year-after-year, we continue to grow.
