Happy Memorial Day

Posted by: on Monday, May 30, 2011 Comments (2)

We enjoyed a fun-filled three-day weekend. It started Friday afternoon at the Cat Depot. The fun continued on Sunday at Tropicana Field. And today we’re hosting a Memorial barbeque and pool party. I’m ready another long weekend just to get some rest.

It’s been about three years since we’ve had any pets (other than goldfish), and for the past few months I’ve been warming to the idea. The plan was to get two little boy kitties since I’m outnumbered by all the girls in the house.

When the Cat Depot called last week to say that they had two orange and white kittens that just came in, I rushed over to take a look. They were both adorable of course, but they also had a beautiful cream-colored sister.

I couldn’t stand the idea of breaking them up so I ran the idea of getting three cats by Dana, and we went forward with the adoption. We named them after the Rudyard Kipling story, Rikki Tikki Tavi.

On Sunday at the Trop we got to watch the Rays spank the Indians in the comfort of the well-appointed Party Suites. Thanks Dana’s employer, FCCI, for hosting the outing!

Today is a gorgeous day for our pool party. And since I’ve been working all morning I can’t wait for the barbeque to begin…

In work-related news I am pleased to announce the launch of SouthTech Solutions’ new website. Originally slated for the second half of 2010, then delayed to first half of 2011, we didn’t actually start the project until April.

The project finally came together in less than two months. It reflects the updated corporate look and feel that we introduced last year and kicks off a new vision-related marketing theme that we’re weaving into the company’s brand messaging. Check it out at www.southtech.com.

Event plugs of the week

I’m looking forward to attending the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards Luncheon at the Hyatt on Thursday.

Next Friday, June 10th I’ll be at MOSI in Tampa attending coolTECH 2011 with featured keynote speaker, Craig Newmark, the founder of Craigslist.

And there’s still time to buy tickets for the Mighty Siesta Key Kiwanis Club’s annual fundraiser, Tropical Nights Goes Disco Fever, on Saturday, June 11th at Michael’s on East. Please let me know if you’re interested in attending or supporting this great cause. Proceeds will go towards our 5-year, $50,000 commitment to the Cancer Support Center and local youth organizations.

Until next week,

Summer is coming

Summer is coming. School lets out in a couple of weeks. It’s getting hot outside. We finalized our summer vacation plans, and the Herald Tribune delivered this year’s hurricane guide. Do you think we’re in for another long hot summer? More than likely, but I don’t see Milestone slowing down…

We have more projects in the works than ever before, and new clients are coming on board every week. Despite the increased workload, I keep trying to prioritize time with the family unit – especially on the weekends.

This past weekend our family enjoyed two great outings. On Friday evening the Mighty Siesta Key Kiwanis Club hosted an end-of-year beach barbeque for our sponsored youth clubs; the Pine View Key Club, and the Sarasota Middle School Builders Club.

The highlight of the party was a Rock Paper Scissors tournament. I made it to the semifinals of my bracket, but lost Joe Sikora. Bob Pretschner won the tournament after beating a Key-clubber in the final round. Thanks again to Drew Lowther for organizing what turned out to be a hilariously good time.

On Sunday we attended a Disney On Ice production of Toy Story 3 at the St. Pete Times Forum. The kids loved the show, and the Shumaker, Loop, and Kendrick hospitality suite was awesome. Thanks again to Doug Cherry and his family for extending the invitation.

Seeing Disney On Ice was just the primer we needed now that we’re going to Disney World this summer. Believe it or not our children have never gone before, and it’s been more than a decade since Dana and I visited the Magic Kingdom. Now that our vacation plans are set, everyone’s getting excited!

Speaking of getting excited, Dana and I are anticipating another celebration. Jessica Sowers, a dear friend and former coworker from Quest Solutions who recently joined SouthTech Solutions, is getting married on Thursday evening at Selby Gardens. We can’t wait to congratulate the beautiful bride.
